6 to 8:30 p.m.
Indianapolis Propylaeum, 1410 N. Delaware St.
The 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was ratified on Aug. 18, 1920, by Tennessee making it the 36th state to complete the two-thirds majority needed to become law. Eight days after the ratification, on Aug. 26, 1920, then-Secretary of State Bainbridge Colby signed the 19th Amendment and proclaimed it part of the U.S. Constitution.
She VOTES will be a multi-faceted event with Lori Wilson, an Emmy Award-winning anchor and reporter at WISH-TV, serving as master of ceremonies. The evening will include speakers Secretary of State Connie Lawson and Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz; the Spotlight Brass Band playing music of the era; suffragist re-enactors and posters highlighting the struggle for the vote, as well as a musical video view of the movement. There will be fun educational competitions and prizes.
The general celebration will be free and open to the public with reservations required. A “Meet and Greet” opportunity with food and beverages will be available to sponsors and donors.
