Award-Winning Local History Tour
Join IHS Membership and Local History Services staff on Thursday, Sept. 15, for our third Annual Award Winning Local History Tour. This exciting day-trip will highlight two of Indiana's award-winning historical societies.
We are heading to Marshall County Historical Society in Plymouth, winner of the IHS Outstanding Historical Organization Award in 2014. From there, it's off to the La Porte County Historical Society, a 2011 recipient of the IHS Outstanding Historical Organization Award.
Enjoy a guided tour of the Marshall County Historical Society's outstanding exhibits including the Train Room, which features several different model scales chugging around a 40-foot board of tracks, and the genealogy research room, with records dating back to 1836.
Following the tour, we'll eat at Opie's Deli, a locally owned and operated restaurant.
Our next stop, La Porte County Historical Society, features more than 30 collector vehicles, which includes a Deusenberg, a DeLorean and several model "T" Fords, and more than 1,000 firearms of all types and periods. The museum has 14 "period rooms" – displays depicting various times in history including an authentic pioneer log cabin, a Victorian parlor, and a 1920s kitchen.
The registration fee is $75 for IHS members and $125 for nonmembers (individual membership is included) and covers lunch, snacks and coach transportation. Click here to register. Consider registering early, as space is limited to the first 50 participants.
Please note, this will be an extended trip and we won't return to the History Center until approximately 6:30 p.m.
