Pantelis L. Cafouros, circa 1893

Pantelis Cafouros immigrated to Indianapolis in 1893 from Greece. In 1906, Cafouros, who was fluent in many languages, began a night school for Greeks to learn English. His son, James, was the first Greek boy to be born in Indianapolis, a major event in Greek tradition. To celebrate, he bought more than $100 worth of fireworks.
