The New Albany and Portland Ferry Company operated between New Albany,
Indiana, and Portland, Kentucky, a town adjoining Louisville, in the period
1860-1885. Interests in the firm were held by Mrs. E. M. McHarry,
Moses Irvin, and W. A. Duckwall. Names of boats which
occur in the company's records include the Ben South, Night, Music,
This collection, coming from four different
sources, includes invoices, logs, receipts, and portage and cash books, some in
photocopy form. The collection covers the period 1862-1884. Day-to-day receipts
and expenses make up the bulk of the record. The photocopied log of the Ben
