HISTORICAL SKETCH

Georg Michael Glösslein (fl. 1820s–1880s) was born in a north central German state and came to the United States in the 1830s, farming in Jackson and Lawrence counties Indiana.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The collection contains letters and documents (all in German) of Glösslein and his family in Germany and the United States, 1839-1881. Included are microfilm and translations of letters between Georg Glösslein and relatives in Germany, 1839-1850, originals of four letters between Glösslein and relatives 1877-1881, an original marriage contract in the Kingdom of Hannover (Germany), 1855, and a photocopy of a handwritten booklet of practical advice and knowledge from the late 18th century. All items in the collection include rough translations by Mrs. Hubert Hawkins and Alice Hodson except the booklet of practical advice.
