BIOGRAPHiCAL SKETCH

Mark Robinson entered the army as First Lieutenant in the 52nd Indiana Infantry during the Civil War.  He was commissioned as Chaplain on 16 February 1863.  He mustered out 31 January 1865.

Robinson was from North Vernon in Jennings County, Indiana.  The 1860 census lists a 51-year-old English-born Mark Robinson working as a merchant in North Vernon, who may have been the father of the chaplain.  He is listed with a 46-year-old English-born wife named Marie, and a nine-year-old boy named Charles W., born in Indiana.  The 1870 census shows a 61-year-old Mark working as Town Marshall in North Vernon, and his wife’s name is then spelled as “Mariah.”  Charles, age 18, is listed as a civil engineer, and there is a five-year-old boy named Daniel Robinson living with them.  Research yielded no further information about Mark Robinson or his family.
