BIOGRAPHiCAL SKETCH

Vertine Young drew these sketches for the book Great Black Hoosier Americans by Luther C. Hicks.  Ms. Young was a local artist, and her self-portrait serves as the final drawing in the collection.  No other information pertaining to her is available at this time.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The collection is stored in two oversize flat storage boxes.  It contains 34 pencil drawings by Vertine Young of notable African-American men and women who were born or lived in Indiana.  The subjects are as follows: Dr. Cleo W.
