historiCAL SKETCH

The Questers is a national study club, formed in 1944, which encourages the appreciation of antiques and their collection, and the preservations of historical landmarks.

By 1978 there were thirty local chapters: Angelique Navarre, Calument, Christiana, Clement Studebaker, Coeur de Cerf, Conner’s Trail, Council Oak, Dunes, Elizabeth Miriam Clyburn, Elkhart, Fall Creek, Fort Beane, Frances Comparet Coquillard, Goshen, H.S.K. and Amy Bartholomew, Hub, Josiah Wedgwood, Lake Shore, La Porte, La Salle-Rousseau, Lockerbie Square, Lowell Marquette, Mascauten, Osah La-Mo-Nee, Portage, Princess Mishawaka, Ridge No. 450, River’s Bend, and Sam B. Woods.

Examples of chapters include, Fall Creek and Lockerbie Square. The Fall Creek Chapter was formed in 1975, with membership by invitation. Activities include progressive dinners, a Christmas brunch, and an installation luncheon. Philanthropic works include donations to local preservation societies and state project. The Lockerbie Square Chapter was organized 2 May, 1968. Membership is also invitational, with the requirement that prospective members have a genuine interest in the study of antiques and historic preservation. The club strives to further interest and education in antiques and historic preservation and studies related areas. The monthly meetings usually are luncheons in the homes of members and include a program and speaker. The club has given a lamp post to Lockerbie Square and makes financial contributions to historic preservations and projects of the state and national organizations.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This collection consists of over thirty years of records from the Indiana Questers chapters. The collection is arranged alphabetically by topic. Records include chapter and state newsletters, meeting agendas and minutes, correspondence, member lists, budgets, and state president’s files from 1967 to 1990. There are also pages from eight scrapbooks and photo albums. The scrapbooks contain meeting and convention programs, and clippings about chapter activities and members, along with photographs from activities.
